Conte Center Posters at the 21st Annual Broad Retreat
Trainees and research technicians from the Conte Center attended the 21st Annual Broad Retreat hosted by the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard at the Kresge Auditorium in MIT. Matthew Demers and Dr. Nader Morshed each presented posters on their work developing human neuron-astrocyte co-culture model from stem cells. Their work demonstrates that these induced astrocytes successfully support the induced neurons in culture, replicating many of the functions found in the human brain. Letian Li, under the guidance of Dr. Jordan Doman, presented a poster on their strategies for performing CRISPR screens in induced human microglia derived from stem cells. Their work highlights several important risk genes associated with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder that are also important for microglia engulfment activity, further cementing the link between synaptic pruning and developmental disorders. They all did a wonderful job, and we look forward to publishing these findings in the future. Congratulations to all our trainees and research technicians for this opportunity to present their work!
