New Educational Resources from SciShow and Futurum
SciShow, a Youtube channel dedicated to exploring and educating the broader public on exciting science, partnered with HHMI to take a field trip to the lab of Beth Stevens at Boston Children’s Hospital. In this video, Beth describes her journey as a scientist and how her initial work with microglia and the complement system propelled her to start up a lab to study neuroimmunology.
In this article and brochure, Matthew Johnson and Beth Stevens explain how we use the human C4 mouse model to understand the relationship between synaptic pruning and schizophrenia. Both resources also feature an interview with Cherish Taylor, a postdoctoral scholar in the Stevens lab, in which she discusses her experiences as a scientist and provides helpful tips to early career scientists. These were produced by Futurum Careers, a free online resource and magazine aimed at encouraging 14-to-19-year-olds worldwide to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEM).
